In a heartfelt tribute to the late Robin Windsor, a beloved professional dancer from “Strictly Come Dancing,” the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and mental health charity SANE have introduced the Robin Windsor Dance Award. This initiative aims to honor individuals who have leveraged dance to overcome personal challenges and enhance their mental well-being.

Robin Windsor, who passed away in February 2024 at the age of 44, was renowned not only for his dynamic performances on “Strictly Come Dancing” but also for his candid discussions about mental health. As an ambassador for SANE, he was deeply committed to raising awareness and supporting others facing similar struggles.

The Robin Windsor Dance Award seeks to recognize someone whose life has been positively transformed through dance. The recipient will receive a £500 prize and a private lesson with a leading dance professional, providing both financial support and mentorship to further their dance journey.

The award was officially announced during “Robin Windsor: The Final Act,” a tribute show held at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane in November. Organized by fellow “Strictly” dancers Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis, the event celebrated Windsor’s life and legacy.

Alexander Campbell, Artistic Director of the RAD, emphasized the award’s significance: “In memory of Robin Windsor, the RAD and SANE have launched an award that honors Robin’s passion for dance and his dedication to mental health advocacy. Robin believed deeply in the power of movement to heal, uplift, and connect. This award seeks to recognize dancers who embody that same spirit.”

Marjorie Wallace CBE, Chief Executive of SANE, added, “Robin spoke bravely about his struggles, hoping to help others feel less alone. We at SANE are proud to honor his legacy through this new award, in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Dance.”

The Robin Windsor Dance Award not only commemorates a talented dancer but also underscores the therapeutic power of dance in promoting mental health and resilience.
