In a landmark move, The Walt Disney Company has unveiled plans to open its first theme park in the Middle East, with “Disneyland Abu Dhabi” set to become the company’s seventh global resort. The park will be situated on Yas Island, a prominent entertainment destination in the United Arab Emirates’ capital, already home to attractions like Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, and Ferrari World.
Developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi-based developer Miral, the project will be fully funded and operated by Miral, while Disney Imagineers will lead the creative design. CEO Bob Iger emphasized that the park will combine authentic Disney storytelling with distinctly Emirati design, aiming to provide immersive experiences through advanced technology and contemporary architecture.
While no official opening date has been announced, estimates suggest that the design and planning phase could take about two years, with construction timelines around five years. The park will feature themed accommodations, unique dining and retail experiences, and new attractions, leveraging Abu Dhabi’s strategic location and status as a major international travel hub.
This initiative aligns with Disney’s broader $60 billion investment plan into global park expansion over the next decade, marking its first new theme park announcement since Shanghai Disneyland in 2010.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi represents a significant step in Disney’s global expansion, aiming to bring the magic of Disney closer to fans in the Middle East and beyond.
