Siemens Mobility to Build £100 Million Advanced Manufacturing Hub in Chippenham

Siemens Mobility has been given the go ahead by Wiltshire County Council to build a new manufacturing and research centre in Chippenham, UK. The £100m facility will be focused on digital engineering, advanced manufacturing and research and development (R&D) for rail technology.

Details of the Project

  • Opening Timeline: The facility is set to begin operations in 2026.
  • Construction Partner: Bowmer + Kirkland, a UK-based contractor, will handle the construction, scheduled to start early next year.
  • Specialization: The hub will produce advanced rail signalling systems and digital rail solutions, aiding in modernising Britain’s railway infrastructure.

Siemens Mobility’s Legacy in Chippenham

Since 1897 we have been based in Chippenham and have been at the heart of rail signalling and innovation. The new hub will support our 800 employees in the area and be a sustainable base for growth.

Rob Morris, Joint UK & Ireland CEO and Managing Director for Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility said: “This will save jobs, upskill locally and continue our rail heritage in Britain.”

Nick McQuaid, Regional Director of Bowmer + Kirkland said: “This will be a landmark for Chippenham and the surrounding area”.

The facility is a showpiece for Siemens Mobility’s innovation and presence in Chippenham for over 120 years.
